New M4 iPad Pro and More at Apple’s ‘Let Loose’ Event!

New M4 iPad Pro and More at Apple's 'Let Loose' Event!

Boasting the event as “the biggest day for iPads”, Apple has finally shown off some new products in this category in a 38 minute presentation that showcases the M4 Apple iPad Pro. The event follows the launch of the Apple Vision Pro back in February, and the M3-equipped Macbook Airs last March.

That’s not all of course, as Apple did announce other things during the live. Let’s take a look at each of them one by one and see what they’re offering this time:

Starring: The M4 Apple iPad Pro

Let’s take a look at the star of the show first. The new Apple iPad Pro finally comes after almost a year without any new announcements and it comes swinging with a host of improvements for those looking to upgrade their tablets this year.

Right away, the tablet’s looking very thin. Like, the 13-inch model only comes up to around 5.1mm thick, making it thinner than even the iPad Nano, according to Apple. We think this should help make it feel much more comfortable in the hand. Apart from that though, it’s what’s inside which really counts.

The new Apple iPad Pro is the first to come with Apple’s M4 silicon, complete with a new display engine, up to a 10-core (4 performance and 6 efficiency cores) CPU, 10-core GPU, machine learning accelerators, and an even more powerful Neural Engine dedicated to AI workloads. Being built on the 3nm process also promises some power and efficiency gains despite the thinner build.

To illustrate this, Apple claims that the new Pro can offer the same performance as the M2 iPad Pro while only using half the power! Faster than any AI PC on the market while only using a quarter of the power, at least according to Apple during the event.

There’s a big bump in its display too, which Apple is calling “Ultra Retina XDR” OLED technology. According to the specs, this can support up to 1,000 nits of brightness for standard content, and up to 1,600 nits for HDR content.

This new Apple iPad Pro will come in either 11 or 13-inch configurations. There’s even the option for a nano-texture glass display in order to cut down glare but it’s only available at higher storage configurations (1TB or 2TB).

The iPad Air 6...now with a 13-inch version!

The Apple iPad Air 6 was actually the first product they showcased during the event. The new iPad Air 6 is now coming in two sizes: a redesigned 11-inch iPad and a new 13-inch format for those who need a bigger screen than what’s available. No M4 chip here though, just the older M2 which, to be fair, is still definitely powerful for most of your needs, and much more powerful than the M1-equipped 5th Gen iPad Air!

While most of the specs are similar between the two, the 13-inch iPad Air supposedly comes with better speaker systems leading to better bass across the board. Other tweaks are shared between the two, such as a new landscape camera placement, making it easier to use while you’re video conferencing with other people.

Starting storage has been doubled to 128GB for both models while pricing remains almost the same as its predecessor: USD 599 for the 11-inch model, and USD 799 for the 13-inch model. It’s already up for order in the US and you can get it in Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray.

Other Apple Products showcased in the event:

Of course, Apple’s decided to come up with new peripherals to go along with their new iPads. For starters, both the M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air will be compatible with the latest generation Apple Pencil Pro, offering new gestures, custom actions, and a built-in gyroscope and “Find My” integration.

Unfortunately, the new Pencil Pro is only compatible with these new iPads so those planning to stick with their older M2 models may just want to stick with the previous Apple Pencils.

And of course, given the M4 iPad Pro’s slimmer design, Apple’s also pairing it with a new Magic Keyboard that’s also thinner and lighter than the previous model. You do get a larger trackpad and function row for added functionality too.

Final Cut Pro 2 and Logic Pro 2

Of course, having the spec bump isn’t as appealing if you’re not going to have any apps or software to use with it. Fortunately, Apple’s also offering them in the form of the Final Cut Pro 2 and Logic Pro 2, which brings in advanced features like Live Multicam and stem splitting.

Finally, Apple’s also announced a new iPad and iPhone camera app to launch later this spring. The app will be called Final Cut Camera and is said to directly support the new Live Multicam feature that’s coming with the new Final Cut Pro for a much more convenient integration.

No word yet as to when these new products will be hitting stores outside of the US. Make sure to follow us here at Kimstore to keep up with all the latest news and releases from the world of tech!
