iPhone 15: It’s Official!
iPhone 15: It’s Official!
It’s finally official! The iPhone 15 has now been revealed to the public, giving us a much better look at Apple’s latest handset. What did the leaks and speculation get right? What did they get wrong? We’ve gathered everything we were able to catch during the launch in this writeup below:
Everything about the iPhone 15
Models, Colors, and Pricing
To no one’s surprise, the iPhone 15 will be available in four different variants like its predecessor. There’s the iPhone 15 and the bigger iPhone 15 Plus and the beefier iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (yeah, ‘Ultra’ name change rumors debunked!).
Keeping with the theme of being similar to its predecessor, Apple has kept the same pricing for the iPhone 15. So if you’ve been saving up to get an iPhone 14 at its non-discounted price, then you might want to look at the iPhone 15 instead:
- iPhone 15 starts at $799
- iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899
- iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999
- iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be available in five new colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be available in darker colorways like black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium. (Foreshadowing for later)
So whether you’re team pastel or team metallic, you’ll be treated to a wide array of nice options nonetheless.
Premium in Titanium
While there’s very little in the way of design changes from the iPhone 14 line, both iPhone 15 Pro models will have drastically reduced bezels, and contoured edges. This should make it much more comfortable to hold while giving you a lot more screen real estate for your videos and images.
Both the Pro and Pro Max are also designed with aerospace-grade titanium, making the phone much more durable and lightweight in the hand. It even ties in with the available color scheme, complete with a refined brush texture for a very premium feel.
Of course, both the Pro models will come with Always-On Display and ProMotion, giving you a smooth and snappy 120Hz refresh rate for all your apps and games. Unfortunately, both the base iPhone 15 and Plus are stuck at 60Hz refresh rate. (Couldn’t even bump it to at least 90Hz, Apple?)
Specs Bump
While the lack of display upgrades is a little disappointing, both the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are getting last year’s A16 Bionic; the same chip used in the 14 Pro, for a big boost in performance and efficiency.
As for the 15 Pro and Pro Max? Well, they’ll be getting the new A17 Pro, the first 3nm chips which Apple claims will unlock next-level gaming experiences and pro performance. While we already expect these chips to do well as with most Apple silicon, the A17 Pro will also provide support for hardware ray-tracing in mobile games.
Ray-tracing basically provides realistic lighting in a 3D-rendered scene, which also grants realistic-looking shadows and reflections, greatly helping with immersion. It generally takes a lot of power in order to pull off so if Apple can do so on such a small form-factor, then it’s poised to really push mobile gaming to a different level.
Charging
Perhaps the easiest speculation to get right is the change to USB Type-C based on last year’s EU ruling for a universal charging standard. All iPhone 15 models will be shipping with Type-C ports, which should expand its compatibility with many different chargers. About time too, given that iPads, and Macbooks were using USB-C for a while now.
Good news for previous iPhone owners though. All Type-C Apple charging bricks will be compatible with both new and old models so you can definitely keep using them! At most, you’ll be due a cable change but fortunately, Apple will include a Type-C to Type-C cable in the boxes of their new phones.

Camera
Both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus have been bumped to a 48MP main sensor, though it’s not going to be the same one found on the iPhone 14 Pro. Instead, the phones have gotten a new Sony sensor with a stacked design meant to help with low-light imaging.
The iPhone 15 Pro gets expanded abilities, with its 48MP main camera now shooting super-high resolution 24 MP as default for incredible image quality.
The biggest winner in terms of camera upgrades though, is the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s now armed with the longest optical zoom ever on an iPhone: 5X at 120mm, with a design that Apple calls tetraprism. You even get OIS, which should really help you capture vibrant colors and vivid details even from afar!
Ready, Set, Action!
Another win from the rumor mill. Both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have their mute switches upgraded into a dedicated ‘Action’ button which you can customize to run any function you might want. You’ll be able to use it to turn on a flashlight, fire up the phone’s camera, bring up Voice Memos, and more!
Once again, pour one out for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The Action Button is once again, exclusive to the Pro models only. Fortunately, all models will be getting the Dynamic Island for easy access to your apps and notifications without leaving the screen.
