M3 Chip, Macbook Pro, and iMac: Everything from Apple’s “Scary Fast” Event!
So, Apple’s surprising “Scary Fast” event has just concluded, showing off some brand new products and tech for fans to get excited for. But if you missed out on the live show and are interested to know what’s coming soon then don’t fret. We’ll be covering all of it right here, starting with the star of the show: Apple’s M3 chips.
Apple M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max
Even before the event, rumors about Apple’s newest silicon have already started circulating on the internet. So while the M3 chip reveal went about as well as expected, Apple had also opted to announce details regarding their M3 Pro and M3 Max chips during the event.
The M3 is built on a 3nm process, giving it a huge advantage compared to the M1 and M2 models. It’s built on a new architecture called Dynamic Caching, which lets the GPU allocate local memory in hardware in real-time, dramatically increasing utilization and performance for professional apps and even games.
Its GPU also features hardware-accelerated mesh shading which helps in rendering complex scenes, as well as hardware-accelerated ray tracing, granting more accurate shadows, reflections, and more realistic environments in games.
Put simply, Apple promises up to 60% faster graphics performance compared to the previous M1 Macbook Pro.
The base M3 features an 8-core CPU and your choice of 8 or 10-core GPU. As for the M3 Pro, it comes with a 12-core CPU/18-core GPU configuration. The M3 Max offers the highest upgrade, reaching up to 16-core CPU/40-core GPU as well as increased memory capacity up to 128 GB of unified memory.
Bigger and Faster: M3 Macbook Pro (14-inch and 16-inch)
The new M3 will be debuting in a new Macbook Pro; now coming in at 14-inch and 16-inch models. Apple promises up to 40% to 60% better performance with the new Macbook Pros, thanks to the new M3 chip as well as an improved thermal system.
Of course, both the 14 and 16-inch Macbook Pros can be equipped with the stronger M3 Pro and M3 Max chips for even more performance, with the 16-inch shipping with the Pro by default. Both M3 Pro and Max variants also come in a new “Space Black” color, for those who like darker colors on their laptops.
Apple has also made upgrades to its Liquid Retina XDR displays and battery life. The new display now gets exceptional peak and sustained brightness, while the battery upgrades brings up an additional 11 hours from its Intel counterparts, putting it in another class of sustainability expected from Apple silicon.
The 14-inch M3 Macbook Pro will start at $2,000 while the 16-inch model with the M3 Pro will start at $2,500. The older, 13-inch Macbook Pro will no longer be sold by Apple once these new laptops launch.

A new 24-inch iMac, now with M3!
And for those who prefer working in a desktop environment, Apple’s finally updating the 24-inch iMac with their latest silicon. This should provide massive upgrades for your workload while still being available at the same starting price of $1,300 for the version with an 8-core GPU, and $1,500 for the 10-core GPU.
Connectivity has also been improved with the addition of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. On the hardware side, you get up to four USB-C ports for the 10-core GPU model; two of which support Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, the 8-core GPU version only comes with two USB-C ports.
Otherwise, Apple has kept the same 4.5K retina display for this newest model as well as the same seven-color options with yellow, green, orange, pink, purple, blue, and of course, the classic silver.
Apple has announced that these new products will officially launch on November 7, so we can expect them to land on Philippine shores soon as well.
