Big GPU Gains in Leaked M5 Chip, New Siri Features, and Other Apple Hardware Rumors

Feels like it was only yesterday since we got Apple’s M4-powered gadgets and devices and there’s already talks of the upcoming M5, promising big performance on at least one front. And yes, it does include a preview of new gadgets coming out with this new silicon.

A leak from Russian YouTuber Wylsacom offered us our first look at the benchmarks of the M5 chip. And while we’re not going to dive deep into the exact scores, we did get an idea of the amount of improvement the new chip is reportedly bringing.

Big GPU upgrades incoming!

Based on the initial leaks, comparing CPU gains doesn’t really yield anything too impressive. The M5 chip reportedly clocked a 10-12% improvement over the M4 when it came to single-core benchmarks. 15% improvement when comparing multi-core tasks.

Yeah, it’s higher but probably not too enticing to switch from say, an existing M4 iPad Pro. However, it should still give you a big boost if you’re upgrading from an M1 or M2 iPad or Macbook.

Switch over to the GPU comparisons though and things are a completely different story. The M5 chip reportedly clocked a big 35 to 38% improvement in Geekbench 6 benchmarks when compared to the M4. Of course, you’re most likely not getting a flat number like this in all apps once the actual product launches. It will still depend on optimization and other bottlenecks.

Still, what it does mean is that you have a lot more power to throw at an app to “bruteforce” it. Especially when it comes to gaming, which are traditionally heavier on the GPU than the CPU.

M5 iPad Pro and M5 Macbook Pro!

Of course, the chip isn’t shown off as just its own. Wylsacom benchmarked it while it was inside a prototype Apple M5 iPad Pro. It’s not clear how they’re able to get their hands on a unit but this was also the same YouTuber who showed off last year’s M4 Macbook Pro in a leaked video last time.

While some of the specs are still unclear based solely on the video, we were able to see that the iPad Pro used was listed with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Another leak, though this one doesn’t come from a video but from the FCC, has also revealed an unreleased Macbook Pro, with a model identifier of A3434. Like last time, we know there’s going to be a 14-inch and 16-inch variant coming up plus your choice of M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips.

It looks like these laptops will be staying with WiFi 6E however. There’s no mention of WiFi 7 support in the documents though it doesn’t completely rule it out just yet. There’s some rumors about these models getting cellular connectivity, possibly if they include the custom C1 chip in the iPhone 16e or the C1X chip in the iPhone Air.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reports two new Mac monitors currently in production. All of them slated for release either the end of this year or the first quarter of next year. Maybe we’ll also get some new iPad Air announcements by that time as well.

An Upgraded Siri coming soon?

Siri’s also been undergoing a bit of a revamp within Apple. Bloomberg is reportedly saying that a ChatGPT-style AI app is currently being used to test the new features. No reports whether this tester app will actually be released though to iPhones and iPads though.

What we do know is that iOS 26.1 will be introducing new helpful features for Siri. There’s the improvements to Apple Intelligence primarily in the form of improved device and context awareness, and other formatting tools.

There’s also going to be AirPlay enhancements when it comes to interacting with your HomePod. Basically, you can now ask Siri to start playing music on the other HomePod speakers around your home if you have them.

A New Vision Pro!

We’ve also gotten some news about the Apple Vision Pro though multiple sources are conflicted when it comes to this report. The first is that a lot of its upgrades are for its internals, like switching from the M2 chip in the first version, to this upcoming M5 chip, most likely due to the improved GPU performance being perfect for VR experiences.

However, there’s also a contradicting report that says Apple may be cutting back on its Vision Pro aspirations in favor of developing lighter AI glasses, slated for reveal in 2026, but with a possible release date of 2027.
