Apple’s claim about bringing the “most transformative change” for the iPhone might just hold water after all.
The new iPhone Duo, the brand’s first entry into the foldable market game, is also one of their thinnest iPhones to date. Yes, including the iPhone Air. So we’re definitely looking at some serious tech under the hood. It was among the last products to be shown off at their 2026 event yet we definitely think it’s the most exciting release anyway.
So let’s take a look at what the iPhone Duo has in store for us, eh?
Thin and Heavy
We started with the phone’s dimensions so let’s look at the design aspect. Fully opened, the iPhone Duo sits at 5.2mm, beating the iPhone Air’s 5.6mm. Not quite Apple’s thinnest device though. That crown still sits with the 5.1mm iPad Pro.
On the flip side, the Duo is the heaviest iPhone to date at 254g, beating even the recently unveiled iPhone 18 Pro Max. Understandable of course, given that it is a larger phone once it’s all opened up.
You’re given a 5.4-inch, 120Hz OLED display to use while the Duo’s all closed up, roughly 90% of what you can get with the new iPhone 18 Pro. But once it’s open, you now have a 7.6-inch, 120Hz OLED, giving you more room for multitasking. Both screens share the same 14:10 aspect ratio, ensuring your content scales proportionally when switching between the two.
Unlike the Pros, the Duo’s frame is reportedly crafted from grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield on the front and back for durability. No official estimates on how many folds the phone can handle though.
Powered by the A20 Pro
The iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro; the same chip found in the 18 Pro models. We’ve already talked about performance estimates when we covered the Pro models here so we do expect to see the same here.
Apple did mention a new display engine to help power both the Duo’s inner and outer display plus the same vapor chamber solution as the Pros to help temper that heat under heavy gaming and multitasking.
The Foldable iOS Experience
Apple has tweaked iOS 27 to better work with the Duo’s foldable design. Lock Screen controls, dock, and other navigation tools and settings have been moved to the side so as to not interfere with your screen while using the phone closed. The Dynamic Island’s been redesigned to appear vertical, whether the phone is open or closed.
In terms of features, a lot of them revolve around that inner screen. For example, there’s Today View which allows the Duo to show two Home Screen pages at once along with other widgets on the side. As for actual multitasking, you get Split View to help you use and swap between two apps or even two windows of the same app.
StandBy also gets a major upgrade, allowing users to turn the inner or outer display into a photo frame, hub, clock, and many more while you’ve got the phone down. And yes, Apple’s also promising more customization options coming in the future.

Non-Pro Cameras and Features
The iPhone Duo sports a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system; something we’ve seen first in their iPhone 16 lineup. As such, it only sports two rear cameras rather than the three that the Pro models get but each sensor can shoot multiple types of photos if needed.
First-gen foldable phones rarely get the same photography chops as their ‘Pro’ brethren however and for camera enthusiasts, the Duo isn’t any different. For starters, there is no dedicated telephoto camera on the foldable so users will need to opt for 12 or 24 MP crops from the 48MP main shooter.
Flip it over and the story’s the same. The Duo only comes with a 12MP Center Stage front camera rather than the 18MP version available in the 18 Pro. It’s still a very good camera mind you, but it might feel strange when upgrading from say, the iPhone 17 Pro.
There’s no variable aperture control here so some of the new Pro control features announced like aperture, shutter speed, and white balance won’t be available in the Duo either. Users still get the new Photographic Styles 3 feature though, allowing them to tweak things like control grain or texture effects on shots.
Battery & Charging
The Duo does something interesting with its battery setup however. Unlike the Pros, it makes use of a dual-battery architecture, allowing it to make better use of its internal space. You basically have a battery in each “half” of the foldable phone, which the company claims is instrumental in helping it achieve all-day battery life even under heavy use.
A mixed use case of both the outer and inner displays can easily last as long as 24 hours, Apple claims. Meanwhile, using just the outer display could reportedly net up to 44 hours of battery life, owing to that smaller screen.
When it comes to charging, Apple did mention the phone reaching up to 50% in just 20 minutes with a fast, wired charger. It does support MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging however, in which case, users can reportedly expect around 30 minutes to get that same 50% battery charge.
Pricing & Availability
The iPhone Duo starts at ₱159,990 here in the Philippines for the base 256GB model, and it’s available in either ‘Star White’ or ‘Night Sky’ colorways. It should come out a little later than the 18 Pro series though, with an official release date of October 23, 2026 starting in the US.
