Google returns once more to the tablet race with their new Pixel Tablet! It’s a welcome surprise given the brand’s early exit after giving it a try with Pixel Slate in 2018. This time, Google is taking a different approach while taking notes from both the dominant iPad and other brands in the Android tablet space.

It’s an Android tablet…and a Smart Display

For the Pixel Tablet, Google opts to bring their Nest Hub know-how in order to deliver a combination of both technologies. The Pixel Tablet doubles as a Smart Display, even coming with its own dedicated dock inside the box! As Google puts it, this allows the tablet to be quite a productive device even when you’re not actively using it.

It’s no surprise that the device’s components were chosen with productivity in mind. Google has opted for a 10.95 inch LCD display, taking into consideration that the Pixel Tablet’s screen is, more or less, never meant to turn off while you keep it docked, reducing the risk of a burn-in. And of course, the dock also doubles as a speaker, boosting sound to easily fill up the room.

In docked mode, you get all the functionalities of a smart display. You’re able to issue voice commands, control your other smart devices, and even stream content from your phone to the tablet via its built-in Chromecast receiver; one of the few devices able to do so.
