Sony Debuts New Look for the PS5!
Sony has announced a new PS5 model that they’re launching for the holiday seasons. The new model packs in all of the console’s great features in a slightly more compact version, which Sony says should improve its flexibility as far as fitting it into living spaces.
So what’s changed with Sony’s new iteration of their latest console? Well, there’s a number of things:
Sleeker and lighter shape, same great experience:
Sony explained that the new PS5 has gotten its overall volume reduced by more than 30%, with the weight being cut by around 18-24% (depending on the version) compared to the previous models. The cover panels are very different too, with the new version coming in with four separate parts.
Apart from that, the internals remain pretty much the same. You get the same AMD Ryzen Zen 2 based CPU and RDNA-2 graphics engine as well as the 1TB of SSD storage (some of which are used by the console’s software).
End of the line for the original PS5?
The new PS5 model is stated to come to the US starting this November, with other regions getting theirs much later. Additionally, once inventory of the current PS5 runs out, the new PS5 will replace it as the only PS5 model available.

New products on the horizon
Like the original models, the new PS5 will come in two variants: a standard PS5 and a Digital Edition, which omits the disc drive entirely. This new PS5 Digital Edition will come with the option to add an attachable Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive that’s sold separately, in case players are looking to upgrade later down the line.
Aside from that, Sony’s also planning a new Vertical Stand for the PS5, compatible with both old and new versions of the console. Alternate colors for the console panels are also planned to release sometime in 2024, with Sony mentioning a new matte Black, Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver.
