Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: Alternatives and Comparisons

Samsung’s FE lineup is well-known for delivering highly competitive products, perfectly balancing hardware specs and an affordable price. A good way to get a flagship experience for almost half the cost. It’s inevitable that the moniker would make its way to the latest round of foldables as well.

But we’re not sure if the concept made it over 100% though.

Starting at roughly PHP 60,990, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE does feel like it still costs a hefty premium over the brand’s other phones. And while there’s plenty of merit in opting for the latest model, some of the other alternatives that Samsung has does warrant a look still.

The Galaxy Z Flip6: Last-Gen, Now More Affordable

The most immediate comparison to the new phone is the last-gen Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. The two phones practically share a similar design language, coming in with the same dimensions, down to the 3.4-inch cover display.

Bulk of the differences lie in the internals. For starters, you get much more RAM with the older Galaxy Z Flip6, along with an option for 512GB storage which can be useful since neither phones support an SD card anymore. The Galaxy Z Flip6 also uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the FE edition uses the Exynos 2400.

Camera hardware is the same as well: a 50 MP main shooter, a 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP selfie camera. Image processing might be a bit different though, the Flip6 using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon ISP while the FE will have to rely on Samsung’s own tuning when it comes to color and sharpness.

You do have new colors for the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE though: Black and White. Plus the glass back lends a bit more of a premium feel in the hand.

The Galaxy Z Flip7: Big Changes; Small Package

You could also choose to up the budget a bit and in that case, you can also get the base Galaxy Z Flip7. This new foldable has been praised for its much bigger AMOLED cover display, with variable refresh rate between 60 and 120Hz plus a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE does have a slightly larger resolution in the cover screen, with 2,640 x 1080p compared to the 2,520 x 1080p found in the Galaxy Z Flip7. Same peak brightness too on both phones.

Both phones also opt to use Exynos this time around, with the Galaxy Z Flip7 opting for the new Exynos 2500 chip backed by 12GB of RAM, which automatically gives it an edge over the FE, especially when it comes to their much advertised AI features.

The base Galaxy Z Flip7 also comes with a bigger 4,300mAh battery compared to the FE’s 4,000mAh so it should allow the phone to last much longer at least, depending on the efficiency gains brought by the new Exynos.

Latest Software; Longer Support

With all that in mind, is there any reason to choose the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE? Of course there is. For starters, it is still much cheaper than the base Galaxy Z Flip7 so if price is the only consideration, then its only competition is the older Galaxy Z Flip6.

And the primary reason to choose the newer model is the software support. Both phones offer excellent software support but the FE does get an additional year to it. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE will launch with One UI 8, giving you much quicker access to the latest features and customization options introduced.

Plus, who knows how long a lot of the great Galaxy Z Flip6 deals will last? If you’re interested in getting a new foldable Samsung now, then it’s definitely time to get a move on and order yours today. Especially when it comes with a Galaxy Watch FE bundle!
