Foldable Fest: It’s the Galaxy Unpacked 2025!

A surprisingly packed, well, Galaxy Unpacked event for this 2025!

Not only are we getting three new Galaxy foldables for this batch, they’ve also shown off the new Galaxy Watch 8 models which, to be fair, have been leaked prior to the event. And building off the surprising success of its Galaxy S25 Edge model, thin and light appears to be the name of the game for this one.

And they seem to have pulled it off without sacrificing too much in the process as well:

Ultra Thin, Ultra Foldable: The Galaxy Z Fold7

There’s no question what the star is for this event. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 was a phone we’ve already discussed ever since most of its major spec leaks came out. And no wonder given all the buzz about going thinner and lighter, even for foldable devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is really thin. It’s 4.2mm when fully unfolded and 8.9mm when folded up. It weighs just 215g which is honestly quite light for a foldable phone given their additional mechanisms. Keep in mind that some of this is due to the camera bump as expected, but there’s a good reason for that:

The phone’s camera has finally received a much-requested upgrade, bumping the main shooter up to 200MP. With this, it finally puts the most premium Samsung foldable on par with the premium Galaxy S25 Ultra in terms of camera hardware.

Internally, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which has already proven to be more than capable in a thin and light, and the base RAM has been bumped up to 12GB. Storage starts at 256GB.

Samsung also wants to draw attention to their “Armor FlexHinge” which they claim helps keep the folding mechanism durable while also reducing the visibility of the crease that comes with foldable displays.

So far so good right? Well, all those upgrades do come at an additional cost as the Galaxy Z Fold7 is now $100 more expensive than its predecessor. But hey. You can always count on our monthly hot deals and BillEase installment plans to help out once it hits our shores.

Finally, a Usable Cover Display: The Galaxy Z Flip7

Smack in the middle of the high-end Fold7 and the more “affordable” model making waves is the bog standard Galaxy Z Flip7. Which is a little unfortunate, as the clamshell foldable does bring a number of upgrades from the Galaxy Z Flip6 that could make it worth picking up.

Just take a look at the cover display for example. It’s edge-to-edge, giving you way more room to work with if you don’t plan on opening up the phone. It’s AMOLED, capable of reaching 2,600 nits of peak brightness, so way higher than its predecessor. 120Hz refresh rate too, so it’s going to be a pleasure to use on top of the added screen real estate.

Compared to its bigger “Fold” sibling, cameras on the Galaxy Z Flip7 haven't really changed as much. 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide isn’t really news but Samsung did mention making more improvements to its software post-processing, including a one-handed mode for its zoom capabilities.

Samsung Dex is now supported as well, making it even easier to use its mobile processing to aid your workload. And of course, you’ve got Gemini Live which works quite well on this wider cover display.

Like the Galaxy Z Fold7 though, the new Flip phone is quite thinner than its predecessor, measuring just 13.7mm when folded up and weighing just 188g. Despite that, there’s a bigger 4,300mAh battery inside, letting it last longer.

A More “Affordable” Foldable: The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE

Finally, we get to the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE; a more affordable option for Galaxy foldables. As expected, there’s a few compromises in order to get to its much lower price point but, it’s still a decent flagship-level phone all things considered.

The processor takes a step down, from the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip7 down to the Exynos 2400 used in the older Galaxy S24 models. Performance should be quite good.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE doesn’t explicitly say it’s chasing the thin and light design but it’s still quite thin for a foldable. It’s 6.9mm, which is only a few hairs thicker than the base Galaxy Z Flip7, which sits at 6.5mm.

It does lose out on the cover screen though. The FE still uses the older 3.4-inch cover display from its predecessor, which itself is capped at just 60Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is priced at $899 compared to the regular Galaxy Z Flip7 at $1,099. Whether the compromises in the smaller size, thicker build, and slightly lesser performance is worth the savings will be up to you.

Not Just About Phones: New Galaxy Watch 8 Series

Samsung is no longer just about phones of course. They’ve also shown off the new Galaxy Watch 8 lineup at the show, both in terms of design and its new features. And yes, this one has also jumped on the slim train, coming in at just 8.6mm even with the brighter screen.

Software features are plenty too. You’ve got Gemini on the Watch now as well as a new ‘Running Coach’ with over 160 different plans. All of which are easily viewable on the brighter AMOLED display. And yes, it did keep the odd “squircle” design that we’ve seen from the leaks.

No Watch Ultra for this batch, surprisingly enough. Instead, we’re getting the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic to round out the lineup. It retains both the Classic look and features, such as the rotating bezel for adjusting settings and other things and also adds the Ultra’s programmable “Quick Button” for easier access.

It borrows the “Ultra” size too. It comes at 10.6mm thick which should add a definite presence to your dress sense. And yes, it’s coming with the new Gemini and Running Coach features too.
