Samsung Teases the Super Thin Galaxy Z Fold7

The march towards slimmer, thinner phones continues for Samsung.

Last week, the brand has just launched a surprise teaser for the Galaxy Z Fold7 which they bill as the “thinnest, lightest, foldable Galaxy phone” as well as “Ultra performance” for the form factor. And now, we’ve gotten a few more details and leaks surrounding this foldable, which is probably releasing during the next Unpacked event around mid-July.

Thin Frame, Big Bump

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is looking quite thin. There’s no concrete numbers from Samsung directly, but CAD files obtained by SamMobile for the phone have it sitting at just 4.54mm when all opened up (9mm when closed).

It’s not the “thinnest” foldable phone as the Oppo Find N5 sits at 8.9mm when closed but that’s a very negligible difference. They’ll feel the same when you actually have it in your pocket.

There’s three camera bumps on the phone based on this CAD as well as some of the early eye-catches for the phone. It seems to have also combined the little island as well as the individual rings surrounding the senses. Basically, the camera bump is looking a little huge for such a slim phone.

The rumored big camera bump does make us optimistic about a possible upgrade to the phone’s cameras, which we don’t have numbers for yet. However, there are also rumors pointing to the upgrades being done on Samsung’s ProVisual Engine AI.

Other leaks hint at the phone being “Qi2 Ready” which probably just means it can work with cases that have a magnetic ring rather than being built into the phone. It may also come in some form of Black or Blue colorways, and that there might not be major price increases compared to the Galaxy Z Fold6.

Building on what came before

Now, this isn’t Samsung’s first rodeo with a much thinner foldable phone. They did release the Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition, featuring more RAM, slightly better cameras, slightly bigger display, and of course, a much thinner design.

That one was only available in Korea though. It wasn’t until the Galaxy S25 Edge did we get a mainstream “thin Galaxy phone” release.

Sitting at just 5.8mm thin and weighing only 163g, it’s a fairly impressive phone from a design standpoint. It’s almost as light as the more compact Galaxy S25 while offering a big 6.7-inch AMOLED display like the Galaxy S25+.

There’s some compromises though. The Edge only gets two rear cameras though the main camera is still a 200 MP sensor for more detail and color in every shot. The biggest drawback is in the battery, which is just limited to a 3,900mAh cell. Quite short for heavy users like gamers and perhaps vloggers.

There’s also the matter of heat. After all, these thin phones don’t exactly have a lot of room for extensive cooling systems and vapor chambers like say, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. They perform well of course, given the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets but they could throttle much faster once the heat builds up.

Galaxy Z Fold7: Releasing in July?

If the rumors and leaks are to go by, Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Fold7 along with other new products around July 13. This speculation is based on a series of Samsung Health events planned out, so we may also see new Galaxy Watches during the reveal.
