Should I upgrade to the Galaxy S25 FE?

Should I upgrade to the Galaxy S25 FE?

Samsung’s FE lineup continues its mantra of delivering core flagship hardware and features at a more accessible price point. But with prices going up, is something like the Galaxy S25 FE still a great option to buy this 2025? Or is it better to either spend a bit more to get a proper flagship or opt for a cheaper midrange phone, which have all gotten really, really good in the past few months.

The answer is of course, it depends. There’s a couple of factors you’ll definitely want to consider, including possible performance gains and of course, what phone you’ll be upgrading from.

You’re Looking for a Performance Uplift

If you’re on a much older midrange Galaxy model and you’re looking for just a bit more punch when running your games, apps, and other things then you’re definitely going to enjoy the Galaxy S25 FE. For starters, the S25 FE is packed with a full-fledged Exynos 2400; a flagship chip found in the previous generation Galaxy S24.

Samsung has included a bigger heatsink compared to the Galaxy S24 FE to help with the increased heat and performance. Frame can be a little hot during prolonged heavy load but performance remains higher than the likes of the Galaxy A56.

You get 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, plenty fast for all your day-to-day apps as well as any of the new Galaxy AI features you might want to play around with.

That said, if you’re already using the Galaxy S24 then there isn’t much performance to be had here. And of course, the same goes if you’re using any of this year’s Galaxy S25 smartphones.

A More Efficient Display

An aspect where the Galaxy S25 FE hasn’t changed much is the display. It’s a 6.7-inch AMOLED display at 1080 x 2340p, with up to 120Hz refresh rate. It’s not an LTPO panel however, unlike the similarly-sized Galaxy S25+. It does have HDR10 support though meaning content from Netflix or any other streaming service looks great.

Intending to take a lot of photos, reviewing and editing them as you go? Good news as Android Ultra HDR is also supported so your photos are sure to look punchier when viewing them within your default Gallery app. It’s a feature that goes a long way in tempering the “overprocessed” look some photos taken by Samsung cameras are often stated to do.

A Frankenstein of Cameras

If it ain’t broke then no need to fix it when it comes to the cameras it seems as the Galaxy S25 FE retains the same rear cameras as the Galaxy S24 FE. So you’ve got a 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor for the main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera capable of shooting at 4K/30FPS, and an 8 MP Omnivision telephoto for zooming in on further subjects.

The selfie camera however, is the 12MP front camera of the Galaxy S25.

As we said, couple all of these with flagship processing capabilities as well as Android Ultra HDR, and you can get some really stunning results on all four of its sensors. Daylight photos definitely deliver the best results but we have gotten some detailed photos even on overcast days, even with the selfie camera!
